Shadow Places (2017)
Crediting: Lighting Designer, Creative Coding and solo works
Shadow Places is a large outdoor installation that took place along the Narrandera Traveling Stock Reserve. The large scale lighting design included illuminating the natural environment populated by several video installations, textile artworks, live performances, Fausto’s solo work standalone lighting installations, while providing strategic & safe illumination in key points for the audience to indicate the walking tracks.
One of the standalone lighting installations, The Burnt Car Installation, was designed to include an abandoned car that was found on site.
At night time, the car was coming alive. The car interiors were illuminated to achieve a realistic look; occasionally, the hi-beam lights were flashing on and off at specific intervals, transmitting a Morse code to the outside world.
This installation was an attempt to bring an abandoned and brutally morphed human made object back to life, using lighting as a form of communication. The audience was instinctively attracted towards the car, and many were instinctively exploring the car interiors, its frame, the car surroundings , and opening the car doors or bonnet to inspect the engine in order to find its source of life.
The technology and lights deployed for this installation were completely and carefully disguised within the car to amplify and suggest a realistic effect.
